I regularly conduct half-day or day long workshops around urban planning, design thinking, and topical issues (typically related to South Asia) for students and community members where I live and work in the US and India.

 

ECOLOGICAL LEARNING COLLABORATORY

Co-Organizer, June 2018

A week-long workshop for ELC partners from SFHC, Malawi; a network of NGOS from Tanzania; Keystone Foundation, India; Ritsumeikan University, Kyoto, Japan; and Cornell University (with Stacey Langwick, Anthropology, and Rachel Bezner-Kerr, Development Sociology, Cornell).

URBAN SOUTH ASIA WRIT SMALL

Co-Organizer, April 2018

An interdisciplinary international conference hosted by the South Asia NRC Consortium, and the South Asia Program at the Einaudi Center, Cornell University (with Ann Gold, Anthropology and religious Studies and Carol Babiracki, Music History at Syracuse University and Daniel Gold, Asian Studies, Cornell).

ISP SEMINAR SERIES

Organizer, Spring 2011-2013, Fall 2014

This workshop series brought in speakers weekly from different disciplines on a variety of urban issues across the world. Funding from Department of City and Regional Planning, International Studies in Planning Program and other centers, departments, programs and student organizations across Cornell.

DOCTORAL STUDENTS SUSTAINABILITY WORKSHOP

Co-Organizer, October 2016

Brought together 25 doctoral students and faculty mentors in the social sciences at Cornell University to discuss issues around sustainability research that go beyond problem definition to policy, implementation and practice (with Mildred Warner, CRP).

MODULAR COURSES

Organizer, Fall 2014

Department of City and Regional Planning, Cornell University. 8-10 hours of study and training on a specialized topic. 3 Workshop modules in conjunction with the ISP Seminar.  Heartstorming: A Workshop on the Artful Use of Community Visioning in Planning with Wendy Sarkissian, UBC, Canada and Bond University, Australia; Scenario Planning with Envision Tomorrow with Alex Steinberger, Fregonese Associates; and What Can Planners Do to Promote and Preserve Inclusive LGBTQ Spaces? With Petra Doan, University of Florida. Also carried out in Spring 2012 ans 2013.

EMERGING DIRECTIONS IN PARTICIPATORY DECENTRALIZED PLANNING

An international conference in Anand, India with invited participants from 8 countries (with Kajri Misra, Xavier Institute of Management Bhubaneswar (XIMB), Odisha, and Debiprasad Mishra, Institute for Rural Management (IRMA) Anand, Gujarat (IRMA), and funding from Ministry of Panchayati Raj, Government of India, UNDP, IRMA and Einaudi Center).

SECOND CITIES IN A GLOBAL WORLD

Three-day international conference with 18 invited participants, Ithaca, NY.  With funding from Poverty, Inequality, and Development Program at Cornell University, Ford Foundation, International Planning Students Organization, and the Department of Architecture, Cornell University.
